My Combined O&P Residency with Superior Prosthetics and Orthotics in Largo, Florida
Mentor: Roy Ghozali
Prior to starting my residency, I had experience as a prosthetic and orthotic assistant. The main area I wanted to focus on was developing a treatment plan and evaluating patients. This did not fall under the scope of practice of an assistant. Roy has been very helpful in guiding me for evaluations and following our company protocols for treatment. If Roy is not around, he is always available by phone to answer any questions I have.

Transtibial Prosthetics
A large part of my prosthetic experience at Superior has had me working with transtibial amputees. I would see patients anywhere from consultations to follow-up visits. The above picture was an active vacuum prosthesis with custom ottobock liner. I was able to work on this patient from start to finish.

Lower Limb Orthotics
The most common patient population I worked with was lower limb orthotics. Diabetic shoes and inserts have been a daily practice, but I have also worked with more challenging patients. The photo above was bilateral KAFO’s for a paraplegic patient who had a goal of standing at her daughters graduation this year. It makes me very happy to see my patient reach their goals and reaching new limits.

Transfemoral Prosthetics
Transfemoral prosthetics was another major part of my prosthetic learning experience at superior. In the picture above, I laminated this socket for a Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan. She was very happy with the look and function of her prosthesis.
